Back Outside

After spending three week's inside, it was time to air Kim out. So it was back to the area that she broke her arm in search of birds. Plus it was a nice day to be outside.

Night Raider

So what's been eating at you bird feeders at night? For us it has been a group of three Northern Flying Squirrel's. It took sometime, but I finally got a photo of one. They only come out at night and a very shy of an light and only spend a second or two in one place. They don't really fly, but glide from tree to tree.

If you think you can squirrel proof a bird feeder, good luck with these guys around.

OUCH Update

The Doc was right! all he needed to fix Kim's arm was a steel plate and a handfull of screws.

The jokes are there, but to keep a happy home, I think I will pass.

OUCH!

Well that's not excatly the words I heard when Kim fell on the ice this past weekend.

Kim broke her right arm on an icy trail along the Minnesota River. We had just spotted what we thought was a group of Mute Swans, something that should not be in our area but was rumered to be here. Kim turned to look and down she went. Some of us are lucky enough to know that great sound of breaking bones. The worst part, was that we had to walk back to the truck down a ice covered trail and drive one of the bumpiest roads you could find. Kim thought we were on a back road in Alaska.

Once at the hospital, the x-ray showed the break. You know it was a good break when the staff and the Doc wince!

It was off to surgery Sunday morning for a plate and some screws.

Kim now as orders to sit and watch the birds from inside the house for the next week or two.

Who knew, that bird watching could be so dangerous?
