Summer is here

I can finely say it, summer is here and less the six month I will be out ice fishing. So what's cooking? For the 4th weekend I double smoked a ham with brown sugar/OJ glaze. The smell was so good in the yard of hickory smoke and pork. Four hours later and you have the finish product. Kim started making jam and jelly this weekend also. Strawberry, Blackberry, Fig and Blueberry. The cheese bread is in the oven, should be some good eats tonight.

Mom's Kids

Can you belive that we are all together, this does not happen very often. The planets must have been alignment just right, the wind was blowing in the right direction or it was just a High School graduation party. My niece Sarah graduated this year, so we all made to the party. So who's who? from the left, Brian, Bonnie, Mom, Lisa and me.

Fair Week

One fair down and two to go! and the ribbon count is?
Kim: 1-Champion, 1-Best of First, 16-1st place, 7-2nd place, 4-3rd
Ted: 1-Reserve Champion, 1-Best of First, 5-1st place, 1-2nd place, 1-3rd place
Not bad to start out the fair season with. What can you say about Kim's soft spot for goat's or a 57 chev in her favorite color at the Back to 50s car show this weekend. Once again we made it thought eight hours of looking at cars and beating the heat. We have a month off until the next fair, so for those in the neighborhood the red wagon will be out dropping off over runs.

Stay cool.

Looks Like Summer

This is what a quite Sunday Morning looks like in our backyard. The water is flowing through the stream, the birds are singing and the sun is trying to make it's way through the canopy of the Oaks. This year the leaves are really thick and so is the vegetation in the woods. I had a deer just ten feet into the woods off the grass and you could not see him. Fall is going to be a tough clean up year for me. The first fair this next weekend, so stay tuned for the ribbon count!

First Week of June

And I thought I had problems with deer in my yard! Found this Moose in the UP of Michigan this past week as the sun was coming up. This Red Billed Gerbe was feeding for something, I never saw it eat anything, but it sure spent a lot of time underwater.

Since it is the first week in June that can on mean that we are now under 20 days until the first Fair of the season. Kim keeps working on her Cinnamon Rolls and I keep eating them. Practice makes perfect. Her breads and bars are looking good also. Now I have to pick the photo's and what Bonsai tree I want to enter.

Enjoy the week.

Coyotes

As Kim and I walked down a trail not to far from are house, I noticed a fresh hole in the side of the hill. Thinking that I maybe a Badger, we hung around for awhile. Then one head popped out, then two and in total eight Coyotes came out of the whole. The pups played like all kids would do when the parents are not at home. Play hard, look around to see if anyone watching and then go back to playing. The parents never did show up, but I am sure that one was close by. I guess it could have been a Bear, they have been moving into the metro area. A Black Bear was killed by the DNR about three miles from my office two weeks ago. And who says there is no wild life in the city.

Enjoy the week.

Just Add Water

Just add water, that's what all the books say to get bird in your yard. Since rain seems to be avoiding us this spring, our back yard is the place to be. From Turkeys to Humming birds, they come in a singles or as flocks. Kind of like a wayside on the bird highway.
